If you’ve spent any time on Facebook or Twitter over the past few days, you’ve probably seen a popular new meme about the Powerball jackpot that’s been floating around the internet.
The meme claims that if the jackpot were evenly distributed between every American (populist rhetoric, anyone?) the “poverty crisis” would be solved for good.
Here’s the meme:
Unfortunately for the meme’s creators – not to mention anyone who was foolish enough to share it – the underlying math is totally wrong.
If the Powerball jackpot really were to be distributed amongst the entire American population, each citizen would get only $4.30, not $4.3 million.
Staying consistent with the rest of the socialist platform, the meme makes zero sense and is totally out of touch with reality.
The only real upside to this spread of misinformation is the comedic relief it’s giving to conservatives.
